To this day, this is one of my favorite projects ever.
During the course “3-dimensional design” in the second semester we created a product family of three spinning tops. With each further model, the amount of mass was supposed to increase – starting with lines, evolving to surfaces, the third and final model had a solid body.
By testing various materials and designs, I discovered many possibilities during this project.
The final spinning tops are made from ceramics and were fired at a lower temperature of about 1050°C to avoid to much distortion and waste of time and (literally) energy.
